The Password Settings page allows administrators to configure robust password requirements that align with your organization's security policies. These settings help ensure all user accounts maintain strong authentication practices to protect your ActionAtlas environment.
In This Article:
Accessing Password Settings
To configure password settings for your ActionAtlas tenant:
- Log in to your ActionAtlas account with administrator privileges
- Navigate to the Admin Console from the main dashboard
- Select Security from the left navigation menu
- Click on Password Settings
Password Requirements
ActionAtlas provides several options to enforce password complexity. You can select any combination of the following requirements:
Password Complexity Options
- Contains at least 8 characters - Sets the minimum password length
- Includes a number - Requires at least one digit (0-9)
- Includes a special character - Requires at least one special character (!@#$%^&*)
- Includes an uppercase letter - Requires at least one capital letter (A-Z)
Each selected requirement strengthens password security. The system will enforce these requirements whenever a user creates or changes their password.
Note: Password requirements are applied to all user accounts, including administrator accounts. The system will prompt existing users to update their passwords the next time they log in if their current password doesn't meet the new requirements.
Password Reset Options
ActionAtlas provides two password reset options to help maintain security:
Password Reset Every 180 Days
When this option is enabled, the system will automatically prompt users to reset their passwords every 180 days.
- Users will receive email notifications starting 14 days before their password expires
- The system will require password changes upon login once the expiration date is reached
- New passwords must be different from the previous password
Global Password Reset
The Global Password Reset feature allows administrators to force an immediate password reset for all users in the ActionAtlas tenant.
Important: Administrators should execute a Global Password Reset if their tenant is under attack or a data breach within their organization has occurred. This ensures all potentially compromised passwords are immediately invalidated.
How Global Password Reset Works:
- Click the Global Password Reset button
- Confirm your action in the verification dialog
- All users will be required to create a new password the next time they attempt to log in
- Users receive email notifications informing them of the required reset
Password Security Best Practices
Follow these recommendations to maintain strong password security in your organization:
Recommended Settings
- Enable all four password complexity requirements
- Enable 180-day password reset requirement
- Combine password settings with Multi-Factor Authentication for maximum security
- Consider implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) for centralized authentication management
Security Awareness
- Educate users about creating strong, unique passwords
- Discourage password reuse across different systems
- Encourage the use of password managers
- Establish a clear protocol for responding to potential security breaches
Tip: Consider implementing a password manager solution for your organization to help users create and maintain strong, unique passwords without the burden of memorizing complex credentials.
